WCMS to re-apply at next government capital funding intake Oct 2020 – Press Release

Tofino, British Columbia, August 14th, 2020 – The West Coast Multiplex Society and Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations on behalf of our eight west coast communities did not receive funding applied for in Feb 2019 from the Canada-British Columbia Investing in Canada Infrastructure program towards the capital costs for the construction of the Multiplex Phase 1 – Arena.  The grant application received great feedback from the provincial government and the Society will re-apply with a few suggested changes for the second intake Oct 2020.

About the West Coast Multiplex PROJECT www.westcoastmultiplex.org

The West Coast Multiplex is a community facility in the making — the dream of many passionate West Coast Vancouver Island parents, kids, sports enthusiasts, health professionals, wellness advocates, senior citizens, educators and business people from eight communities.

The objective is to develop a regional recreational facility to meet the growing needs of the communities of Tofino, Ucluelet, Long Beach Area C and the First Nations communities of Ahousaht, Toquaht, Yuułuiłath, Tla-o-qui-aht and Hesquiaht.  Planned to be built on Airport Road, just before the airport, the proposed facility will serve multi-generational families who are interested in improved health and wellness through a variety of recreational and educational activities.

About the WCM FUNDRAISING EFFORTS www.westcoastmultiplex.org/fundraising/

The WCMS is a non-profit driven by dedicated volunteers with no physical office.  The expenses are kept at a minimum and we rely on the support of the communities to raise funds for the Multiplex to become reality!  We have two different funds that cover different expenses:

Facilities – Capital funds:  The Society is responsible for raising all capital funds to cover the project costs through grants, funding applications and donations.

Society – Operational funds:  The annual Scramble Golf Fundraiser Tournament raises funds that cover the operational expenses of the Society.  It also funds some reports that are needed to apply for government grants in hope to secure capital funding.  It is crucial for members of all eight communities to support our 20th anniversary community event at the Long Beach Golf Course Sept 19th, 2020 for the event to be successful!
